Life Saved #3045

On November 2nd, 2024, a 73-year-old woman choked on a large pill resulting in a total obstruction. Protocol was not followed as LifeVac was self-administered. LifeVac removed the obstruction on its second use. The woman describes the incident as follows:

“I live alone and after receiving the Heimlich maneuver when choking on a piece of bread in a restaurant on vacation, I realized I needed some sort of safety device at home. I had no idea the Heimlich took so much force and doubted I could do it to myself with a chair. So I did my research and found the LifeVac. It was right where I needed it in a kitchen drawer when I choked on my pill this morning. It’s very large with hard edges and got turned sideways somehow. A little water and coughing didn’t help. I could barely get any air and was afraid it would get worse. I’m not sure I could have spoken if I called 911. I think I actually had the mask upside down on my face but it worked anyway. With the second pop it was dislodged and I coughed it out. No more of THAT supplement! This was terrifying for sure, but I’m grateful I had my LifeVac… I think it is particularly important for anyone living alone.Two things went through my mind: could I stay conscious and talk enough to call 911, and what will happen to my dear dog if I pass out?When would someone find both of us? (I also immediately signed up for the “Snug Safety” app to get daily check ins! I work from home and so often don’t talk to or see people for days at a time.) Hopefully I’ll never need it again but I’d like to have it with me in case someone else is in trouble near me. Thank you again for a wonderful product that WORKS. I’m the living proof!”
