Life Saved #3160

On November 25th, 2024, a 4 day old baby choked on vomit resulting in a partial obstruction. Protocol was followed. LifeVac removed the obstruction on its third use. The child’s parent describes the incident as follows:

“Well last night was the worst night of my life. We ended up at children’s ER downtown with our tiny 6 lb FOUR DAY OLD after she aspirated on her own vomit in her swing. I fed her. Burped her for 20 mins. and put her in her swing right beside me. She puked. I picked her up and she let out a huge cry and she aspirated. Her eyes were bulging and watery and her face was bright red. She couldn’t take a breath but I knew she was getting some level of oxygen because she never turned blue.

We called 911 while I did back blows, suctioned, and ultimately had to use our lifesaving suction device, The LifeVac which brought all the puke up from her nose and mouth and she finally cried. I did it three times and each time it brought more and more up. After the third suction, she immediately cried and her color started turning back to normal. The Fire dept was here in a matter of minutes and they were absolutely AMAZING. They took her oxygen and checked her pulse and after she was cleared they gave her back to me to regulate her heart rate and to hold the oxygen over her mouth. I chose to take the ambulance to children’s hospital to have her lungs looked at. Everything was perfectly fine. No immediate or lasting damage. The doctor said we handled it perfectly. Some of the things that prepared us so well for this incident was having a game plan we discussed before our children were born, if we ever experienced a choking incident and having a DESIGNATED place for the LifeVac and it was NEVER moved. We made sure EVERY person that came into our home to care for our children knew where it was and how to use it. The LifeVac ultimately made all the difference and saved my FOUR DAY OLDS life. We immediately ordered two more! One for our car and one for our diaper bag. I will be purchasing one for every baby shower I’m invited to and everyone is getting them for Christmas! I will NEVER go ANYWHERE without one! I’ve texted all my family and friends and asked if they have one and shared our story hoping to spread awareness of this lifesaving device!!! My husband’s parents are pastors and they’re purchasing them for their church and their church nursery! I pray no one ever has to use it but EVERY SINGLE home in America needs this device just in case!”
