On January 9th, 2025, a 2-year-old boy choked on a piece of chicken causing a total obstruction. Protocol was followed. LifeVac removed the obstruction on its first use! The child’s mother described the incident as follows:

“My son was eating dinner when he began choking on a piece of chicken he was eating. Due to his SMA he has reduced lung capacity and was unable to clear the piece of chicken on his own. My husband administered back blows but was unsuccessful in clearing the obstruction. We keep the LifeVac zip tied to the back of his highchair for easy access in an emergency. My husband grabbed the device and used it to remove the piece of chicken. His home nurse examined him the next day and we monitored his stats via pulse ox at night as well as did his breathing protocol before bed.”
