Life Saved #3476

On January 29th, 2025 an 8-month-old boy choked on a chip causing a partial obstruction. Protocol was followed. LifeVac removed the obstruction on its second use. The child’s mother described the incident as follows:

“I was WATCHING my son walk along the couch holding onto it and didn’t see him put anything in his mouth except his blanket (he loves chewing on stuffed animals and blankets)! I noticed him start to cough, so I watched for a second thinking it was normal, then he turned red and was gagging and his body was fighting! I immediately realized after the gagging started that he was choking! I grabbed my son quickly and started the baby Heimlich but it wasn’t working. I was smacking over and over but nothing, so I dangled him upside down and kept smacking, it dislodged briefly but went back into place. I remembered THIS DEVICE AND BOLTED to my kitchen, grabbed it, slammed down to my knees, laid him down, and used it twice. I was so scared I was gonna hurt him but the second time, it worked! He immediately started to breathe again and cry! I was shaking I was so scared! Turned out my daughter (4) was eating some chips and a decent sized piece got tangled in his blanket he was chewing on!!! I believe this device saved my baby! Without it I would be waiting for 911 to come save my son since everything I did to save him FAILED!!! Who knows how long an ambulance or officer would’ve taken to get to my home!!!!”
