How does LifeVac work?

LifeVac is a simple, safe, and effective choking rescue device that can help save a life in the event of a choking emergency. It works in seconds and can be used on both adults and children—no special training required. The device creates a gentle suction to help remove food or other objects blocking the airway. Just place the mask over the person’s mouth and nose, then push down and pull up.

At what age can the LifeVac be used?

LifeVac is intended for use on adult or pediatric choking victims who are at least 1 year of age.

Can LifeVac potentially push an obstruction further down or injure a victim by accident?

No, LifeVac will never push an object further into the airway. Its one-way valve ensures that air escapes through the sides of the device, and not into the victim, when the plunger is pushed. When you pull the plunger up, it creates suction to remove the obstruction.

Does the LifeVac expire? When should masks be replaced?

While the LifeVac device itself never expires, our mask manufacturer recommends replacing the masks every two to three years, or by the expiration date on the packaging. We also recommend periodically inspecting the masks for any signs of wear.

What are the differences between the various LifeVac kits?

While the actual life-saving device in each kit is the same, each kit contains different items:

The Home Kit is designed for use by the general public and provides customers with both an adult and pediatric mask, as well as a practice mask that can be used to familiarize customers with the life-saving device.
The Travel Kit is designed for those who already have a home kit and would like an additional unit to take on the go. The Travel Kit comes in a zip-up yellow bag—perfect for keeping in your car, luggage, or diaper bag.
