“Tonight, before church my husband and I had the scare of our lives. Our son choked on a butterscotch candy. His airway was completely blocked. As I played piano unaware, our son couldn’t make a sound to alert me that he was choking. Daddy came in and our son made eye contact with him and he knew something wasn’t right. As he saw him with his face red, clutching his throat. We spring into action, doing everything we can. My husband’s praying, I’m pounding on his back, trying to dislodge this candy from his throat. Nothing. He’s turning blue. And I have no doubt God reminded my husband of the LifeVac grandma got us when our son was born. Hollering for the keys, I’m running to the car in the rain digging as fast as I can for this life saving device, while dad and the EMT (one of our guests) do what they can. Once I got it out of the package and ran back inside, we placed him on his back, after the third place, push, pull- he could breathe.
My advice to any parent, never EVER let your child have any hard candy unless you shatter it. We don’t even like him having sugar, but we were at church and he insisted…and I gave in. It grieves me. But I’m so thankful we had this LifeVac! Every school, church, nursery, restaurant, and company need to have this alongside their first aid kit! It only took a second for him to lose control of that piece of candy, walking around aimlessly seeking for help…he had to have been choking at least 2-3 minutes once we finally got it out. Had we not had the LifeVac, I don’t know how long it would have taken us…if we could have freed his airway at all. The thought sickens me, knowing I could have lost my child to a butterscotch. My husband felt helpless during it all, but had he not remembered the most important part of this whole ordeal, nothing else mattered. Our child is alive because of LifeVac! Every household in America NEEDS this! From infants to the elderly, anyone can choke! Luckily our son is doing great now! I was worried if any brain damage took place but everything is as it was prior, praise God! Not 10 minutes later he was already asking for another piece of candy lol! He acted like nothing had even happened! Just living the dream. Thank you again!”
