Life Saved #4848

On October 11th, 2025 a 2-year-old boy choked on blueberry during a febrile seizure leaving him unconscious. Protocol was followed. LifeVac successfully dislodged the obstruction on its second attempt. The childs mother described the incident as follows:

“On the date of his choking incident, our family went to the corn maze for an outing. Our son felt warm when we were leaving. When we got home, he was still warm. I checked his temperature at 99 degrees and thought it was viral. I put him in the high chair to eat dinner and planned on giving him fever reducing medicine later. Within 30 minutes his seizure started. He was eating at the time and started choking as well. We removed him from his high chair and started first aid, but he was unresponsive and had passed out. My husband placed him on the floor on his backside and I pulled out the LifeVac. It took two tries and it dislodged the food he was eating. He immediately started breathing again. While my husband was using the LifeVac I called 911. The police arrived while EMS was en route. They kept him responsive until paramedics arrived. Because he was still lethargic, they took him to the hospital. They did chest x-rays to confirm there was nothing left in his lungs. His temperature at the hospital was 102.3. They said the seizure was caused by how rapidly the fever progressed. So, he choked while seizing because he was eating when it came on. He had what we expected was a viral sinus infection for a week leading up to this incident, which turned out to be bacterial. His pediatrician gave him an antibiotic shot and he has been better since. I honestly bought this device because my daughter had two choking incidents when she was a baby. Traditional first aid worked for her. As a mom, choking is my biggest fear. I just wanted a backup plan and peace of mind. I never thought I'd use the device. If it weren't for it though, I may have lost my son. I'm forever grateful!”
