On May 27th, 2026 a 1 year old boy choked on a soft boiled egg resulting in a total obstruction. Protocol was followed. LifeVac dislodged the obstruction on its first attempt! The child's mother described the incident as follows:
“We were serving our son breakfast and for some reason a diced piece of boiled egg became lodged in his throat. We serve food in appropriate sizes and he’s normally a very good eater at taking and managing bites. I’m not sure if he just had too much in his mouth or what. We were all just sitting together and talking. There were no distractions or anything like that. It was a completely random incident. We’re familiar with him gagging on food and this wasn’t that. His eyes got so big and scared and there was no coughing like when he gags a bit as he’s figuring out his bite, he just started grabbing at his mouth and clearly wasn’t getting proper air. We’ve taken a baby first aid and CPR class while pregnant and leaned into that. We tried back blows and chest compressions since he is only 12 months old but it didn’t dislodge. I grabbed the LifeVac we keep on our fridge and placed him on his back on floor and used it as directed. My older daughter called 911 while I used the LifeVac. The piece dislodged and he took a sucking breath of air and started crying. EMS checked him out on arrival and he was fine by then but told us to follow up with his ped who we went right in to see. He is his normal happy self now. 🤍 I absolutely recommend this device to everyone and it has become my go to as a baby shower gift along with cute clothes, of course.”
