On October 28th, 2025 a 7 month old boy choked on vomit causing a total obstruction leaving him unconscious. Protocol was followed. LifeVac successfully dislodged the obstruction on its second attempt. The child’s great grandmother described the incident as follows:
“I was next door at my grandson’s home painting his front porch. I noticed my granddaughter hysterical in her driveway with the baby in her arms limp and non-responsive. With 45 years as an RN, my response to choking kicked in. I grabbed him, flipped him over my arm, and did back blows with no results, no breathing. I ran the baby to the carpeted back porch, laid him down, and yelled at my grandson to run to the bathroom and grab the LifeVac. First LifeVac attempt nothing, no breaths. On the 2nd LifeVac push/pull, vomitus was relieved and he gasped for air and began crying. EMS just then arrived (no LifeVacs on board), examined the baby, and noted he was breathing normally and his vitals were stable.
I convinced many of my colleagues to buy LifeVacs. When I first saw the LifeVac on Facebook, I thought that it was an awesome piece of medical equipment and began researching. I did initiate the LifeVac school kit for Meredith Dunn School and in-serviced the entire staff on the LifeVac for fall 2024. Little did I know I would actually use the LifeVac a month later! I was so anxious when the back blows failed. Then it popped in my head, LIFEVAC!!! I plan to re-inservice the staff for fall 2025!”
