On October 30th, 2025 a 10-month-old boy choked on a piece of foil resulting in a partial obstruction. Protocol was followed. LifeVac successfully dislodged the obstruction on its third attempt. The childs mother described the incident as follows:
“We were at home and I was getting my kids ready to leave. My 10-month-old was crawling around and apparently found a piece of trash on the floor, a thick piece of aluminum wrapping from something. He swallowed it and immediately was gagging/coughing but unable to move the item. It was a corner piece and the edges were sharp so I think it was really stuck. I started back blows and he gagged up some mucus with blood in it. I realized the back blows weren’t helping so I ran outside to get the LifeVac out of my car and called my neighbor to come help. She was there within 15 seconds and we started using the LifeVac. We realized after the fact that we were pushing it down before we placed it. It took about 3 tries and then Shep was able to gag up the item. If we used it correctly it probably would have worked the first time (my fault for not reading about it before I needed it). It was a partial blockage, but he was really struggling to breathe. I think LifeVac definitely helped speed the process up to remove the item and keep any further damage from happening. All in all, he was choking for about 5 minutes, but still able to move a little air. Just really thankful for LifeVac and the peace of mind I had knowing I could use that to help. I am telling everyone his story & how thankful I am for LifeVac!"
