On November 23rd, 2025, a 10-month-old boy choked on a leaf resulting in a partial obstruction that left him unconscious. Protocol was followed. LifeVac successfully dislodged the obstruction on its third attempt. The child's mother described the incident as follows:
“Definitely a scary parent moment. When I tell you those 10 minutes felt like 10 hours… We had just gotten home from church when suddenly we saw my son choking. I grabbed him like I normally would and started doing the back blows I was taught — but nothing was working. His gasping for air was getting worse. My husband was right next to me asking, ‘What do you want to do?’ and I said, ‘Call 911.’ I kept working on him while my husband ran to the cabinet and grabbed the LifeVac. My mom had actually given it to us about two years ago, and honestly, I forgot we even had it. I didn’t know how to use it, but my husband immediately went to work on our son. Within seconds, he got it out. The relief I felt in that moment was unreal.
Right after, my son started clotting blood from his mouth, which scared me even more. When the paramedic arrived, he explained that the leaf was large and sitting perfectly horizontal, which made it extremely hard to dislodge with back blows. He also said the end of the leaf — the part with the stem — is what cut my sons mouth, causing the bleeding. Even though he seemed okay, I still wanted 911 to come because I was completely shaken and just needed reassurance. The paramedics checked him out, and when he started giggling, we knew he was truly okay.
Long story short, I am SO grateful we had LifeVac, and I’m so grateful my husband thought so quickly on his feet. I genuinely don’t know what would’ve happened without it. I’m also thankful to the paramedics for coming to check him out, even though he ended up being fine. And I’m especially grateful my mom gave us LifeVac two years ago — something we never thought we’d actually need, but ended up saving our baby. It was definitely a “never a dull moment” kind of day. I was still shaking for a good hour after, but I would do anything to make sure my baby is okay. I’m just beyond grateful for the protection over him and that we had that device when we needed it most. Everyone needs to know about this!!! “
