On November 27th, 2025, a 13-month-old girl choked on a piece of mango resulting in a partial obstruction. Protocol was followed. LifeVac successfully dislodged the obstruction on its first attempt! The child's mother described the incident as follows:
“Back blows and chest compressions were not effective, the LifeVac was! My 13-month-old was eating a precut mango sphere. She usually loves to eat them and has never had an incident like the one we experienced today. As she was eating, she bit a big piece off and immediately swallowed it. She then began coughing and choking. I patted her on the back but it did nothing. Her face got red, she opened her mouth and let out a squeal I’ve never heard her make. I quickly got her out of her highchair, put her over my leg facing upside down, and began giving her back blows. I turned her over and couldn’t see the piece of mango, so I started quick chest compressions and turned her over again to proceed with back blows. My husband ran to our room and located the LifeVac where we keep it in her roller cart. I turned my daughter face up and my husband placed the face mask on her and did the suction maneuver once on the LifeVac. Once he took off the mask, I was able to locate the piece of mango in her mouth and turned her over on her belly so that the mango could fall out. It fell to the floor and my daughter began to cry. She showed regular breathing patterns and was able to be soothed after a few minutes. Thank you, LifeVac and your team for such a great product! Our daughter is here because of it and we are so grateful; it really is helping save lives.”
