On March 31st, 2026, a 1 1/2-year-old girl choked on a pasta resulting in a total obstruction that left her unconscious. Protocol was followed. LifeVac dislodged the obstruction on its second attempt. The child's mother described the incident as follows:
“At appropriately 5:45pm, we were in our dining room. We just finished eating dinner which was pasta and red sauce. We cleaned up everything except 1 plate, which is what she grabbed it from. She went to climb down off her chair with a piece of pasta in her mouth. My daughters' lips were blue, she lost consciousness. Back blows were not helping. With no training in my LifeVac, I was still able to use it effectively due to its easy to follow instructions. After using it, she immediately started crying again. After getting her to breathe again, 911 was called, we went to the hospital in our town and had a full work to done on her. She was stable all night, and an evaluation was completed with many x-rays, blood work and other tests. She was just exhausted after the choking event but is doing well now. We are so grateful that we had a LifeVac on hand. It has been an incredibly stressful 2 days. But we are home and she is doing good. It is critical to highlight the importance of being prepared. No one thinks a choking incident will happen until it does, and it is always better to be safe and ready. I hope it helps another parent know about LifeVac!”
